About Us
Our Founders
Derrick and Bobbie Cunningham moved from Alabama to Texas in 1981 for a better life. Life in Alabama was stagnant and rooted in seemingly unmovable challenges that diminished their quality of life. Determined to live better, they uprooted themselves and moved to Texas. In Texas, they began to build relationships that propelled them to help people in the community.
The Cunningham’s have a rich history in building the lives of people and communities. Their acts of kindness include providing meals and food for the hungry, transportation to those unable to drive or who didn’t have a means to get to different places, helping people find employment, and becoming a place of shelter for those in need. Their intention was to help people have healthy and productive lives.
In 2003, Derrick was diagnosed with kidney disease which caused their lives to take another turn. Despite the winding road of surgeries, illnesses, and other challenges, they persevered and continued to help others even when they needed help themselves. Their dedication to people and the community birthed “The River Flows Foundation”, which is a nonprofit organization devoted to being the conduit to change the lives of low-income families and individuals.
